We’ve said it before: Scientology’s “OT 3” auditing level gets all the attention, but the other “Operating Thetan” levels are just as wacky, and deserve to be better known.
It’s after a Scientologist has spent years and hundreds of thousands of dollars over their career, and after they’ve gone past “Clear” and into the OT levels, that they reach OT 2, for example, where they learn that evil psychiatrists (from the planet Farsec, it turns out), booby-trapped our minds with harmful implants that have been there for thousands of trillions of years. Wild, right?
Sure, OT 3 is fun because it’s when a Scientologist gets to read, in founder L. Ron Hubbard’s own handwriting, that 75 million years ago a galactic overlord named Xenu stranded billions of disembodied souls here on Earth (it was Teegeeack back then), and thousands of these angry, invisible entities — called “body thetans” — are clinging to you or hovering around you, and they’re the real source of all your problems. Remove them with the use of the E-meter, and you’ll begin to reclaim godlike superpowers.
But then, on OT 4, you not only learn that there are still many more body thetans infesting you, but that they need drug rehab!
We love this idea. A bunch of space junkies have been crashing in your organs and joints, and you need to put them through some kind of Hubbardian AA to get them to take off.
But wait, you might say, I’ve never done drugs in my life. Why would I have body thetans who need rehab?
Aha! Hubbard says. He’s got an answer for that. Hubbard explains that what you might have done this lifetime is no excuse, because your body thetans may have done hard drugs millions or billions of years ago on other planets somewhere, and those ancient space civilizations might have had drugs that were way more hardcore than anything we have here on Earth!
Invisible cooties hopped up on super space coke. See, now this is why it’s a shame that Scientology celebrities won’t talk about Hubbard’s actual ideas. It’s great stuff.
Anyway, it’s always fun to keep this in mind when you’re reading a new testimonial from a Scientology space cadet who has just come through OT 4. Because you know what a wild time he or she has been through. But will they admit it? We get just a hint of what’s really going on in this humdinger from Johannes…
Johannes | New OT IV
What an adventure and what a game the OT levels are! I realized I was playing this game, and it has certainly been the most adventurous and rewarding one I’ve ever played.
On OT I, the game started to become real, and the seriousness of it all disappeared. The fact that I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning, work for 10 hours or more, and then go home and still be able to go in session—that’s evidence that I was truly playing a game. On OT II, I could see the insanity of our culture and how much needs to be done. And the only way to get through it is by making it a game. OT III rehabilitated my self-determinism. Suddenly, opportunities opened up and ideas flowed.
New OT IV was fantastic! The clarity and certainty were just phenomenal. I hadn’t realized how certain I was about things and how quickly I knew my answers. Then, suddenly, my space expanded, and I was no longer the size of my body. I had always experienced a haziness in my right eye, and on New OT IV, I realized that this was due to drugs—which is exactly what this level addresses. Since then, the sharpness and clarity have returned.
The final win, for me, is a particularly interesting one, because I can see how every win I’ve had has led to this one. I’ve always had all my abilities—I simply hadn’t used them. I realized that none of my abilities need to be recovered; they are there. I hadn’t allowed myself to use them because I was waiting for evidence to prove I was confident.
These OT levels have given me back my confidence to discover my abilities—and to use them.
Will Johannes be disappointed to learn that he’s got even more body thetans to remove on OT 6 and OT 7, and that OT 7 is the most difficult of all and can take a Scientologist years and years to complete it?
Well, let the man celebrate his win for today. OT 4 is a big step, and his rehabbed body thetans are no doubt the better off for it.
As we’ve noted in the past, our very favorite OT 4 completions are Greta Van Susteren and her husband, attorney John P. Coale. Isn’t it a shame that such a powerful and well-known couple aren’t letting the world know about how they managed to dry out their BTs?
Coale was appointed to be President Trump’s deputy envoy to Ukraine, and he continues to get big assignments from the White House. He’s been a key figure in Trump’s reachout to controversial Belarus President Alesksandr Lukashenko, which the White House figured was a good idea to help get messages to Putin ahead of the Alaska summit.
Isn’t it great that we have an OT Scientologist who knows how to chase away junkie body thetans handling our foreign relations? Wild.

And yet, he still needs eyeglasses.
It's so refreshing and a joy to read never in outsiders speak so understandingly about L. Ron Hubbard's quackery spiritualism.
It is always amazing to read Tony's grasp of body-thetans (I like how you Tony called them ghosts once, which is what they simply are, "space ghosts") and these body-thetans which infest us humans, supposedly, per the Hubbard quackery spiritualism ideas.
Tony's grasp of OT 4 is just incredible.
Getting never in outsiders to even discuss Scientology better than Scientologists (who get declared "SP" for describing things as clearly as Tony does over and over to the public's benefit, and minimally Wikipedia's coverage of the Hubbard spiritualism quackery is today just excellent), it's so nice to see this development in history of this crazy bad Scientology subject.
That the Scientologists are penalized horribly if they ever discuss their body-thetans ghosts leaking their ancient space bad "implant" ideas into our human minds, and how the Hubbard solution is OT 3, 4, 5, 6and 7 (five steps) of exorcism/soul/ghosts---freeing to rid our human bodies of these space ghosts.
The movie Ghost Busters, just comes to mind, the Scientologists are secretly ghost busting (freeing) themselves while doing the Hubbard OT 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 procedures, all using the Hubbard "Emeter" device to detect the ghosts, and use the "Emeter" to show when the space ghosts are successfully alleviated.
That's ghost busting to me.
