Thanks Mitch and Tony for the inside scoop on Ron’s fleeting brush with the 60s movie business. Hubbard’s hyperbole regarding his cinema skills was fully deflated once he started directing his own Scientology films. There were almost riots by Scientologists when they saw his cinematic masterpiece “The Secret Of Flag Results”. One thing that Ron excelled at was his ability to con a great many of idealistic people.

“The script reads like dialogue by someone who only writes functional prose.” I.e. he writes technical manuals for his minions. How 'cinema' is that? The pomposity of his letter is hilarious. Yes, he was abused by the studio, a studio that thought that he was a putz. His story was used as the basis for the screenplay, which did not have any input from Lron.

No matter how forgettable the 1938 movie serial was, it did have at least one great actor/stuntman, Yakima Canutt. He is perhaps the only reason to watch that serial.

I have to wonder if that script read at all like what Hubbard said he wanted to do based on the opinion of Brancato that it sticks close to the original. It sounds like just some of the dialogue was. Because his 'ideas' on the treatment in his letter sounded like Battlefield Earth-type over-the-top attempts at narrative and staging, but as if Hubbard was still doing LSD.

Wow, I think I can hear the elfin xylophone wind music, drifting from the mountain.

Great to see Mitch Brisker provide new angles for viewing El Rhum Flubbard's contributions, even if some of them remained potential.

Tony, and Mitch, any trace of those Hubbard directed training films? The ones with "More Gore!"

I found a copy of a Leni Riefenstahl photography book from Africa, so some of that work was published.

For a properly unhinged fantasy movie in the Alpine movie vein, I recommend (very highly) "Careful" by Guy Maddin, a Canadian weirdo :-)

Not shocking but still disgusting
