Kirstie Alley’s children True and Lillie Stevenson put out a statement today that their mother had died after a short battle with cancer. The Cheers actress was 71.
She’s also been known as one of Scientology’s most well-known celebrities, and an often very vocal defender of the organization.
When Leah Remini made her public exit from Scientology in 2013, Alley had unkind things to say about her, and continued to throw insults Remini’s way.
In 2018, we reported that one of Scientology’s own publications had revealed that Alley had reached the ultimate auditing level on the “Bridge to Total Freedom,” which is known as Operating Thetan Level Eight, or “OT 8.” The magazine included this quote from the actress about attaining a level that gave her power over “matter, energy, space, and time.”
Now here I stand a New OT VIII shiny, fresh and calm… well, as calm as a thetan like me can be. I am more confident than ever before. And here’s the big news. I now fully have the confront that puts me right up that damn confront scale with other Scientology Freedom Fighters!
In their message, Kirstie’s son and daughter referred to the Moffitt Cancer Center and Alley’s short battle with the disease. This should answer the inevitable questions that will come up about whether the actress had sought proper medical care or, as many Scientologists do, had harbored the deep distrust of the medical profession shared by Scientology’s founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
We didn’t see the notice right away this evening because Kirstie has had us blocked at Twitter for many years.
But we will miss her online antics.
That Kirstie’s announcement comes on December 5, a day we associate with the death of another Scientologist, Lisa McPherson, is something we’re only beginning to come to grips with.
Please give us your thoughts about this major news in Scientology history.

As I posted over at the Bunker:
I was not planning to post today...the story of Lisa is so sad and horrific. I always do remember her on this day and I hope that, Tony, you continue to post this every year. It is such an important story.
What made me decide to post was seeing the news on Kirstie...another OT who has passed away from cancer. I knew Kirstie. She was nice to me and welcoming. Regardless of all her club BS and involvement, comments, etc., which I was as turned off by as everyone else, it still saddens me when I hear that someone I know has died. When will those in come to realize that the scam is what it is...a scam. We all know that John Travolta was a close friend of hers. Between the death of his wife and close friend, I hope that he opens his eyes. Come on, John.
Condolences to Kirstie's family and friends.
And Lisa...we will never forget. ❤️ RIP
It’s hard to know what to say. At least she got out of Scientology!
