It’s that time again, pilgrims! Scientology has out a new copy of Advance! magazine, and that means a new edition of its beloved feature, ‘OT Phenomena.’ We can’t get enough of it and we know you can’t either.
For the new folks, here’s our usual introduction to the subject:
As much as Scientology wants the public to think of it as a totally not weird self-help group that offers things like improved communication and business acumen, the reality is much stranger and, frankly, a lot more interesting. What Scientology actually offers is a yearslong pursuit of past-life therapy and other esoteric practices which is supposed to lead to superhuman powers, granted as a church member reaches the “Operating Thetan” or “OT” auditing levels.
These upper-level secrets are not cheap. But to entice members to keep forking over the big bucks, for decades Advance! magazine has been printing ghost stories — er, totally true and factual accounts — of Scientologists discovering their new supernatural skills obtained while they are going through their OTs.
The magazine calls them ‘OT Phenomena,’ and we always dig it.
Here’s the new batch. As ever, let us know if you think these stories would be enticing enough to convince you to fork over a million dollars or more to reach the upper OT levels.
GETTING THE PICTURE
I’m auditing on Solo NOTs, and something theta is always happening on my dynamics. For instance, one day in the playground at the nursery school where I work, I noticed a mother searching for something. I asked her what she was looking for, and she told me that her child had lost his stuffed animal somewhere on the playground. She was desperate to find it, since her child couldn’t sleep without it.
Immediately, I had 100 percent certainty about where the boy had left his toy. I was thinking that he had been riding on a small plastic motorcycle and I perceived him putting his stuffed animal inside the baggage compartment in the back of it. Two seconds later, I found the boy’s stuffed animal in that exact place.
Since then, that mother and some of my colleagues have been calling me to help them find lost things, and it has become a game.
This is only one of the many OT phenomena I have experienced. — C.C.
TRAVELLING BACK IN TIME
On a recent trip to Ireland, I decided to explore a past lifetime, when I lived on an old farm in Ennis. I recalled making a weekly trip to the market in Ennis and knew the trip took about an hour with a horse and wagon. I reckoned that was about three miles. I knew the road home followed a river, but it was only visible just before we reached the bridge that crossed it. Once we turned onto the bridge, my horse knew he was almost home and would break into a fast trot up the hill.
Using some old maps, I located several spots that fit my memories, zeroing in on one road. I hired a driver and sure enough, we followed the road and found my cottage, which miraculously was still standing. The farm and the cottage were just as I remembered. — J.N.
A CHANGE OF HEART
My relationship with my grandfather had become rocky and I couldn’t resolve it. After I started taking Scientology services, I told him many times that it would help him, too. But he wasn’t open to this idea. Time passed, and I started the OT Levels. When I came out of an OT I session, I realised I had missed a call from my grandfather. This was especially surprising since he lives on a mountain and his cell phone is very old, making it next to impossible to connect with anyone out of the country (as I was). I called him back immediately, and without any hesitation, he asked me bluntly, “That Purif you spoke about before, how do I start?” Now he’s about to start at our local org. For me this was a true OT miracle. — H.F.
MIRACLES HAPPENING
While I was at AO doing the OT Levels, miraculous things started to happen, thinks I had never experienced before. One of these had to do with the business my husband and I have. One day I mentioned to him that we had a client in Thailand who had not paid his bill for more than five years. I had the idea of contacting the client, but didn’t. Soon after, the bank called me to say that a deposit had come through from a foreign bank. Without any prodding from my husband or me, our Thai client had paid his bill in full.
Although I am still at the AO in a country far from home, our clients continue to give us new business and our company has been booming and prosperous.
Another OT phenomenon concerned my son. I was worried that I was not going to be home when he left for the army. After I cam out of a session, he called and told me his enlistment date had been postponed to a time when I will be home. He was surprised and I was overjoyed. Being on these OT Levels is extraordinary. Good things happen again and again. — K.K.
IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT
I was looking for a particular model of car in a certain colour. The one I wanted was not easy to find. Then I went to my auto mechanic to get my own car repaired. He didn’t know about my search for a new car, but there was the car. He was selling the exact one I wanted to buy. The right model, the right colour, the right price. Indeed, consideration is senior to mechanics. — J.H.

The OT phenomenon miracles seem much more tame and un-miraculous than they used to be in the 70s. Still spending years of your life and six figure dollars to achieve the benefits of the OT levels that I just read are insane.
In truth the end result of completing the levels up through OT VIII are: enhanced narcissism, cancer, extreme credit card debts, 2nd mortgages on your home, heart attacks, broken families and loss of longtime friends and associates. I’m sure I have missed many other toxic benefits on my list.
I stated reading the advance magazines in 1969. And I was wowed by the continued stream of insipid BS.
On a different subject, I will be seeing Tony at the screening of my documentary BROTHERS BROKEN at the Regal theatre in Union Square, Dec 3, 11:15 am. Mike Rinder will also be there. If you are in the area please come. Here’s info on the film and getting tickets.

Imagine my surprise when my granddaughter brought me my mail and there was a copy of Advance magazine. I was almost, but never, in. I have recently moved and getting mail for others. I was wishing that I could get some mail from Scientology, so I must be a natural born OT! I have postulated a n Advance magazine! Yaay me! Now I have the address for the Atlanta org, now I need some Aftermath cards!
