On Saturday we told you about a flier that had been forwarded to us announcing a major end-of-year bash that Scientology is planning in Los Angeles.
It was scheduled for the middle of December when, traditionally, Scientology would tape its New Year’s event at the Shrine Auditorium so that it could be shown at orgs around the world on the night of December 31.
The flier, which talked about Los Angeles being the “Scientology Capital of the World,” invited Scientologists to spend the holidays in Southern California and tour Scientology’s various facilities, something we really hadn’t seen before.
The email that accompanied the flier made a somewhat vague mention of “the greatest gathering of Scientologists in Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec 16th at the most iconic Scientology event site in Los Angeles!”
But there was no specific mention of a New Year’s event taping, or the Shrine Auditorium. It seemed to be more of an event to promote field dissemination and for recognizing “Power FSMs” who sign up new people in the organization.
Now, however, we have some indication that a taping of a New Year’s event is happening. One of our sources passed on to us an invitation they received to attend the taping of the New Year’s event at the Shrine Auditorium on Saturday, December 16.
This would be the first time in four years that the event was taped there, and would follow on Scientology’s recent return to England for the IAS gala earlier this month.
The next question is, if a New Year’s event is going to be taped at the Shrine on December 16, will Scientology leader David Miscavige be there?
It’s hard to imagine a major taping like that happening without him, and we have asked our source to see if they can get a response to that question.
As Mike Rinder pointed out to us several weeks ago, Miscavige would know that he could maintain tight security in a return to Saint Hill Manor in England, but going to the Shrine is another matter, especially with multiple lawsuits active in Los Angeles right now, and with process servers looking for an opportunity to serve the church leader.
Is Dave’s determination to return Scientology to its traditional slate of events greater than his concerns about the risks involved in a return to LA?
We’ll let you know if we hear anything more about the event and whether Dave is planning to attend it. But for now, the return of the New Year’s event to the Shrine would seem to fit Dave’s resurrection of the IAS gala in England, which Scientologists no doubt consider a triumphant accomplishment and proof that Scientology has weathered the pandemic and is thriving again.

I have advise for any potential process server. Just stake out any high end booze store and put an air tag on the most expensive bottles of Miscavige's scotch. Then just follow the Sea bOrg who buys one. Or pretend to be a door dash runner with a bottle of DM's favorite booze and say that Tom Cruise sent you with a gift for the COB. Believe me, much fun will ensue.
The way the flyer presents the event makes me think that Dave doesn’t want anyone to expect him there.
Maybe he will Zoom in on a giant screen, or beam in as a hologram from Bulgravia. Or maybe he ‘ll hide in the glove compartment of Tom Cruise’s ‘copter.
