What a week it’s been for PostcardMania CEO Joy Gendusa.
On Tuesday, with Hurricane Ian barreling toward Florida’s west coast, labor journalist Jonah Furman published statements by Gendusa that the Clearwater mail-order business would work through the storm, and that she expected employees not only to be at their desks but also to bring their kids and pets to the building if they worried about being swept away.
Vice then picked up the story and had a ball with it, pointing out that once the news had gotten out that Gendusa’s insane company memo was rapidly going viral, the company announced that the business would actually be closed and that they simply meant the building could be used as a shelter. (Sure, sure.)
And then Creative Loafing Tampa Bay added the delicious detail that Gendusa, of course, is a well known Scientologist in the area. PostcardMania is known as a sort of employment agency for Scientologists living near the Flag Land Base.
And yesterday, Vice again found even more nutty statements by Gendusa, this time in a 2020 video that featured her downplaying the danger of the Covid pandemic.
Along the way, clips from a video of Gendusa at Scientology’s own main website were sampled, as well as excerpts from a Freedom magazine story. Joy is a staple of Scientology promotion, a story of Scientologist makes good.
Well, a reader pointed out to us that there was another delicious morsel in this box of Scientology chocolates, and so we wanted to tell you about it.
Remember our story in January, when we took a fun tour through Scientology leader David Miscavige’s own personal website, which featured 96 videos from Scientologists praising him as the greatest dude ever?
Yeah, that was a lot of fun to see ardent Scientologists like Tom Cummins (a major donor and Florida CEO), Sheila Gaiman (writer Neil’s mum), and Judy Norton (yes, the Waltons actress) volunteering to pump up Miscavige for his own website. The adoration was just precious.
Well, it turns out that another person who recorded one of those videos was none other than PostcardMania CEO Joy Gendusa.
It’s just too perfect, isn’t it?
The ability to make a person feel so important and to be genuine about it is extraordinary, and you don’t see that very often at all. So, to be the recipient of that from Mr. Miscavige actually, of course, has affected me in my own activities as a leader. I try very hard to do the same. Don’t know if I’m quite as good at it, but…
I have seen the most amazing, incredible products on a societal level, just what he’s done to help get rid of drug abuse and what he’s done to help literacy and it’s, it’s just mind-blowing. It’s mind-blowing to me what this man has been able to do for society. He’s just incredible.
I’m very thankful that David Miscavige is in the position he’s in. I feel fortunate and just blessed that David Miscavige is at the helm. Because I know we’re OK.
Her husband Sam also has a video on the same page.
Oh, and here’s another bonus. Remember the story we did two years ago about the 14-year-old vlogging her experience at Scientology’s expensive Oregon boarding school, The Delphian?
We were reminded that this is Joy Gendusa’s granddaughter. The whole family is a treasure!

Barf.
These trigger the time I was asked to make a video when I was on the Freewinds ship of this "church." (Never aired anywhere; thank God.) I didn't want to do it but was asked to and one knows that he/she cannot say no or you will find yourself in a world of hurt. You never really know when you watch these if any of these people are doing this out of duress or free will. Well actually, none of these are totally "free will." No such thing in the church of scientology.
We are currently going through an issue with a family member and addiction. The lies have been uncovered yet the person continues to lie, trapped in their own delusional world that everyone believes them and they are smarter than those they are lying to, too proud to admit they need help.
Because I am watching this and scientology watching in parallel, I am aghast at the parallels of a hard core scientologist and an unrepentant addict. The lies that are so transparent to those of us on the outside are their only protection from the perceived threat of what would happen if their comfort zone was attacked.
It becomes painful to watch these videos. More like watching a cornered dog begging it’s owner not to beat it.
The most painful part if all of it is the fact that when I was in and spouting those same lies, I was totally oblivious to the people who didn’t believe the lies, especially the ones who loved me and were hurt by the lies.
Unfortunately, just like any addict, a scientologist cannot leave until they are ready to break free. The arrogance will do them in, just like it does addicts.
