The reason I stopped supporting Tom Cruise's films isn't just because I disagree with Scientology, it's specifically because any success Cruise has depends on the labor trafficking of "ordinary" Scientologists. I might draw the line differently in the case of another artist who has harmed people. But regardless of how much I feel someone's work has enriched my life, I have never regretted the decision to abandon it in the face of inexcusable behavior.
Never liked the characters he played because to me he was a "one note" actor in 99% of his roles. I liked him when he played his narcissistic scino "self" in Magnolia and Rock of Ages. As a Vietnam era vet, I'm on the fence about Fourth of July.
Let's not forget he has never won an Oscar with four noms. He's won three Golden Globes, which he gave back. In fact, he's won less than a third of his noms.
