We want to thank the longtime reader who forwarded to us a great little Facebook video that was posted on April 27.
It was posted by Scientology’s New York “Ideal Org,” and it featured actor Jeff Pomerantz, who is also known as the “voice of Scientology,” because he’s who you hear doing voiceover at Scientology’s events.
He’s also known for the way he’ll show up for protests, like a few years ago in Hungary, where he wore the same T-shirt he did for the legendary 1985 Portland crusade.
Pomerantz, in other words, is both a familiar figure in Scientology and a warrior. So when he makes an announcement like this, we figure it was a real call to action.
Hi to all my friends in the New York area. This is Jeff Pomerantz, and I’m inviting you to a surprise party. On May 4th, Saturday, the American Psychiatric Association is having its annual meeting and we are going to provide a surprise for them! So please join me, let your friends know, everybody come. We want to have thousands of people. So please help. Thank you very, very much. Contact CCHR or your org. All the best!
Thousands of Scientologists, descending on the evil psychs in New York, and only some 25 miles away from where we happened to be? We were pumped!
And it turned out that we wanted to sit down with a source on a related story anyway, so yesterday morning we got up early and pedaled down to Hudson Yards to witness this epic event.
After a very pleasant meeting with our source over a cup of coffee, we both then walked over to the Javits Center (but separately, we didn’t want to bring any protester or OSA attention on our source, who was attending the conference), and we went to the front of the building to take in the spectacle.
We couldn’t wait to see Pomerantz leading a procession of thousands, and maybe wearing his famous T-shirt! Would Jan Eastgate be there, the president of Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), the most unhinged of Scientology’s front groups, and the one that seeks to completely destroy the psychiatric profession?
Oh, the anticipation, it was killing us.
Well, as you will see in this goofy little video we put together, we were sorely disappointed.
We can understand that it might have been difficult to pull together “thousands” of Scientologists in only a week, but we didn’t expect zero turnout.
After we left, we checked with our source at the conference a couple of times to make sure that a protest hadn’t arrived later. They said no, they checked, and no one showed.
However, our attorney, Scott Pilutik, did spot something over the Hudson River that afternoon. And thankfully, Scott has become a skilled birdwatcher and is quick with his camera and telephoto lens…
So Scientology did manage to protest the presence of the APA with its flying banner.
That will teach those evil psychs who’s really winning this sector of the galaxy!
