The news about Hurricane Milton is getting worse and worse. It reached Category 5, yesterday with sustained winds in excess of 175 mph, and the low pressure at its eye makes it one of the most powerful storms ever in the Atlantic. On Wednesday evening, this catastrophic storm may run smack into Scientology’s Florida headquarters, the Flag Land Base in Clearwater.
Professional ham hock, major Scientology donor, and prominent Donald Trump fan Grant Cardone chose this moment to follow on a suggestion by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who wondered on social media if these powerful storms hitting Florida are somehow being controlled or sent purposely by either the government (Cardone), or a shadowy “they” (MTG).
Cardone was immediately buried under an avalanche of repliers, who ridiculed him for not doing the barest research, which would have told him that numerous storms have followed tracks from west to east in the Gulf, even though it’s more common to go in other directions.
Here’s just a few of the responses…
Your Proprietor also had to smack his forehead when he saw Cardone’s tweet, because we have personal experience with a storm that followed almost that exact same track, and which Mr. 10X has apparently forgotten about.
We’re talking about another storm that had hung around near the Yucatán, had grown in intensity to become one of the strongest ever in the Atlantic, and then came east to smack into Florida, where we were living at the time.
We’re talking about 2005’s Hurricane Wilma, which was so powerful that it knocked the stuffing out of us on the east coast of Florida after coming across the peninsula.
Your Proprietor was living in Fort Lauderdale at the time, editing a newspaper called New Times Broward-Palm Beach, a sister paper to Miami New Times.
And when the storm hit, we immediately lost power and had to put out an issue on generators. The streets were a mess, and we would be out of power for a full week in our particular neighborhood. But the press had to go on!
As the issue was being finished up, your Proprietor suggested a last-minute change to the cover. The Miami folks, where both issues were being assembled, loved it, and so it came out on both…
As you can imagine, it was a hit with readers.
Anyway, take a look at the predicted path of Hurricane Milton (left) and the path that Hurricane Wilma took 19 years ago…
Both of them came from the Gulf near the Yucatán and headed east to slam into the west coast of Florida.
Grant Cardone may not remember it, but we sure do!
In other hurricane-related news, we know you’ve been seeing some examples of Scientology’s yellow-jacket-wearing Volunteer Ministers springing into action where photo opportunities are to be had in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
Over the years, we’ve reported on the VMs and the cynical way they pounce on natural disasters to pretend that they are actually providing a useful service.
Well, we have it from solid sources that the Volunteer Ministers were used in Clearwater after Hurricane Helene for something even more questionable than simply mugging for a camera.
In the last few days, we're told, an elite squad of VMs was dispatched to the home of Scientology’s biggest donor, billionaire glass artist Trish Duggan, to haul sand out of her posh estate and the house next door, which she reportedly owns and rents out.
We can’t help thinking of the way Scientology celebrity Tom Cruise has also benefited from free labor provided by the church.
All that work may be for naught, however, if Hurricane Milton puts a bullseye on Trish’s home tomorrow.
We genuinely hope that the Church of Scientology is taking this storm seriously. It’s not something to trifle with. If you’re in the evacuation zone, get out of there!
VIDEO: East Grinstead Town Council still doesn’t get it
Alex Barnes-Ross has demonstrated to the elected officials of East Grinstead and Mid-Sussex that he means what he says about Scientology’s abuses and that he is asking them legitimate questions about their interactions with the church.
But even after reviews by independent government bodies have vindicated Alex and criticized these councils for how they have handled his requests for information, they still can’t seem to grasp the situation.
When Alex addressed the East Grinstead Town Council yesterday, the councillors can be seen making faces and shaking their heads that Alex was back.
Here, check it out yourself as Alex points out that they keep losing the appeals regarding his requests, and didn’t they think it might be a good time to apologize to him?
You know, we've seen lunatic Scientology lawyer Leigh Dundas screaming at county supervisors in California at the top of her lungs, and we can tell you that they act less put out about her doing that than this lot do because Alex has showed up once again to ask them a legitimate question.
What is it going to take before it begins to dawn on them that they are on the wrong team?
“Exactly. And for them to realize that a simple acknowledgement they messed up and apology for their handling of the situation would go a long way in restoring trust in local government,” Alex says.

East Grinstead response to Alex sounded to me like “mommy didn’t tell me I needed to apologize so I dint have to.” That was very childish. Someone was caught with their hand in the cookie jar. When a person’s second income is threatened, they are rude to the person who discovers they are on the take. Keep up the good work Alex!
The reply to Grant - “Zenu caused it” is LOL funny. It’s truly grand to see that now in 2024, people actually understand the joke.
The facial reactions by the council members when Alex speaks is a reflection of what is. Good job Alex.
And good job on your planning to protest this years event, I know he is prepared to protest as early as next weekend but scientology has given him an extra 2 weeks in which of course he will gather more protesters. scientology - always making things worse on themselves.
As for Brendon’s story when his senior had him toss the plate of the Chefs dinner and gave him sandwiches that had set out all day in the sun, that is what it was like.
What grown adult puts up with such treatment? It still took another few years to leave but he did and in 13 years has built himself an ideal family life ❤️ FU to his past. I spent years with Brendon prior to his SO duties. He did his jobs for me perfectly. Now 30 years later he is still perfect. I am so proud of him for not letting his childhood ruin his life now. Thank you Tony for covering his anniversary.
