Selling $cientology is a very difficult thing to do. Watson could have made more money by selling used cars or time shares. Except I don't think time shares were a thing in '62. The Clampire has tried to put up an Ideal mOrg in Hawaii for some time, but I see no progress. I expect the VMs to show up on Maui and take a few selfies and then disappear.
Give Jones some loving, being a reporter dogging $cientology in '62 was not something most reporters would have done.
Well we can give credit to the fact this this reporter is accurate as to what comes up in a Scientology church and the training and conversations that happen. It was the same all the way up to when I left in 2004.
Hubbard says not to talk to reporters because they are biased and already have their mind made up. Besides using the word “cult” in the article, it looks like a fair (and accurate) report.
There've been a number of notable "Watsons" in Scientology history.
In 92 to 95 when I worked a few years at Author Services Inc, one staffer there was Susie Watson-Taylor. I never asked if she was related to the other Watsons in Apollo era Scientology history.
Barry Watson I recall in 1976 ish was awarded Ka Khan along with Fred Harris, for their doing the Aides Order 536 "Tours" selling Flag services to the public Scientologists around the US mainly then, and driving loads of business to Flag in Clearwater, booming the Flag Service Org's statistics and income which never ceased from then to decades later/now.
I wonder if there was familial connection between all the Scientology Watsons?
And it is sad so much sophistication, when from minute 1, a simple galvanometer was used, invented so many decades before.
But it is not very progressive to say: "I am going to submit you to the lie detector, of the most modern church in the world" What a great inconsistency ..

Watson certainly had Hubbard’s goofy patter down pat. I heard all his quotes in ol’ Hubb’s voice.
"Goofy" !! thanks Artoo45. One of my favorite words in relation to ALL things Hubbard, including speeches, facial expressions and sailor suits.
The article is interesting

Great reporting
